1 + 1 = ?

Do you know what 1 + 1 is? You might say, "Duh! It's so obvious! It's 2!" But, what if I ask, "How do you know whether 1 + 1 was 3 long time ago. And, how do you know whether 1 + 1 will change to 100 in the future?" Ok, I will stop being silly. You are right. 1 + 1 is always 2. It was so long time ago, and it will be so, in the future as well.

Do you realize in this life there are things that never change? Just as 1 + 1 is "always" 2, God says His words are "always" true as well. That means God's words were true 1000 years ago. And, His words will be true 1000 years from now on as well. Although everything around us may change, God's words never change. They are true all the time. So, we can trust in them.

"Every word of God proves true..." (Proverbs 30:5, NLT).

Lighthouse

Have you seen a lighthouse on the seashore? You know what the lighthouse does? It gives the light to the ships at night. At times, when ships are on the ocean, it's easy for them to get lost. So, the lighthouse gives them the light, so the ships may know where to go.

And, we too at times get lost in this life. In the darkness, we do not know where to turn to. So, we too need the lighthouse to point us to the right direction. Do you know what's the lighthouse for us? It is God's words. The Bible says, God's words shine in our lives, so we may know where to go in this life. So, when you get lost, open the Bible and start reading it. Soon, God's words will shine through your way.

"Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path"
(Psalm 119:105, NLT).

Speed Limit

Do you like rules? Don't do this. Don't do that? While on the road, have you seen a speed limit sign like on the picture? Speed limit tells cars not to go beyond the speed limit written on the sign. You see, cars may complain that the speed sign slows them down. But, we know that the speed limit is there for cars' safety and our safety as well!

Sometimes, we may think that God's words are full of rules that we don't like. We may complain that God's rules are limiting our freedom and making us live a bored life. But, this is not true. Just as the speed limit sign is meant for our safety, God's words are meant for our life. God's words give us life!

"These instructions are not empty words--they are your life!
By obeying them you will enjoy a long life..." (Deuteronomy 32:47, NLT).

Donuts

Do you like Donuts? It’s so delicious! It’s so sweet! But, do you know what is sweeter than donuts? What is sweeter than honey? God's words.

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
(Psalm 119:103, NIV).

Unopened Letter

Did you ever receive a letter from your friend? What if you received it and never opened it? Will you then ever know what your friend wanted to say to you? Will you ever know what was in your friend's heart?

Do you realize God also has given us a letter? And, that letter is the Bible! But, if you do not open it up and read it, will you ever know what God wanted to say to us? Will you ever know what was in God's heart? Maybe, it's time for you to open God's letter and start reading His heart for you. It is His Love Letter for you.

"...Meditate on God's law day and night..." (Joshua 1:8, Paraphrase).

Washing

"Man, how often do I need to pray and read God's words? They are so boring!" Have you ever said that to yourself? Well, how often do you wash your face and your body? I bet you do it every day, because we get dirty every day. Otherwise, your mom would not be happy with you.

So, just as we wash our face every day, because it gets dirty every day, we too need to wash our thoughts every day. As we live in this world, our thoughts may get dirty by the thoughts that are not pleasing to God. So, we need to wash our thoughts every day. That is why we need to spend time with God's words to make sure that our thoughts are filled with God's thoughts. And, we need to do this every day.

"...Be transformed by the washing of your thought..." (Romans 12:2, Paraphrase).

Mirror

Do you know what the mirror is for? We look at the mirror when we sense that our hair is messed up, or we feel like something is on our face. We look at the mirror to fix ourselves and to make sure that we are looking good!~

Do you know what we need to look at to make sure our heart is looking good? Just as the mirror shows what is wrong with our face, God's words reveal what is wrong with our hearts. So, for example, one day while reading the Bible, you may discover that your heart has sin problems. Then, that's when you start asking God to help you have a  good looking heart.

"Test me, LORD, and try me, examine my heart..." (Psalm 26:2, NIV).

Gas Station

Once in a while, when your parents drive the car, they stop at the gas station to fill up the car with oil. Why? Because no matter how nice, how strong, and how great the car is, it cannot run without an oil recharge!

Do you realize we too need spiritual recharge daily in our lives? Just as a car cannot go without oil recharge, without spiritual recharge, we cannot live for God. In other words, we need to be strengthened daily by God to live our lives for Him. So, how do we gain that spiritual recharge? God has given us the Bible. As we mediate on it, God recharges us, so we can live for Him!

“My soul is tired…strengthen me with your word” (Psalm 119:28, Paraphrase).

Foods

Do you like eating? What if one day you said to your mom…“Mom, since I had great foods yesterday, I no longer need foods for today, tomorrow, and the rest of my life.” Does this make sense? Of course it does not. Why? Because our body needs foods every day! We need to eat daily on a regular basis!

Do you realize we need to eat spiritual foods daily as well? Spiritual foods are what we call having relationship with God. We can do this by praying, reading the Bible, worshipping, or even just thinking about God. So, are you eating foods for your stomach every day? What about spiritual foods?

“Your word is better than daily foods” (Job 23:12, Paraphrase).
